In 2006 Kwizien was set up by successful Belgian restaurateur Rudy Kerrymans of Ubud's Cafe des Artistes. Originally it offered virtually the same menu, price and standards.
Early in 2007 Kwizien was sold and is now under Dutch management, with no connection whatsoever to Cafe des Artistes. The central part has been air-conditioned and the menu has been substantially changed.
Latest Visit: Some of the old favourites have disappeared from the menu, new entrees include Meat Balls in a Blueberry sauce, unusual but nice. Prawns wrapped in bacon, like many dishes here now a very small serve for the price. Amazingly all Indonesian offerings have been removed from the menu, they used to do an excellent Nasi Goreng, so obviously the mixed groups now go elsewhere.
Even with the advent of air-conditioning, the full menu is no longer available for lunch, now mainly sandwiches and salads.
Surprisingly the once considerable wine list has deteriorated to the stage that very little is available, including no Australian house wines, only local.
Kwizien now offers much more expensive options and appears to have lost its hard-earned popularity.
